About Custody Keeper
TomaWeb's Custody Keeper® is a simple yet very useful scheduling software to help plan the time sharing of children between 2 or more guardians. Custody Keeper also lets you keep a daily diary of comments as well as track all of the expenses incured. Divorce and seperations are painfull enough. The TomaWeb Custody Keeper interface is simple to use and will help you plan and manage the time sharing of the children so that it is clear for everyone involved.

Creating a new schedule
To create a new schedule, click the "New" button on the toolbar. This will bring up the New Schedule Properties dialog box and allow you to enter the initial schedule properties such as the schedule's name, years of duration, and persons whom will be sharing the children. You can enter up to 4 people. If you use less than 4, leave the other fields blank. You may also customize the default settings for the time slots.

Opening an existing schedule
To open an existing schedule, either double-click on a Custody Keeper file (myfile.csf) anywhere on your hard drive or launch Custody Keeper and click the "Open" button from the toolbar. This will open up the file open dialog box which will allow you to browse for the desired file.

Changing schedule properties
To change the schedule's properties, click the "Properties" button on the toolbar. This will bring up the same window as when you created the schedule. You can use this window to change most of the properties including the name of the schedule as well as the names of the people sharing the children.

Navigating within a schedule
Once you have created or opened an existing schedule, you will see Custody Keeper's main calendar window. If the current day in included in the schedule's start and end years, you will automatically be taken to the current month with today's date square highlighted. You can change the displayed month by using the navigation arrows or simply by selecting a different month or year.

Editing a schedule
To edit the days of the schedule, either double-click or right-click a date square. The Edit Day window that comes up will allow you to assign people to the 4 time slots of that day. You can do so by holding down you left mouse button on one of the color coded people squares from the left and releasing it over a time slot square on the right. You can also right-click a time slot square and select the desired person. Once you have color coded all the time slots for the selected day, you can choose a repeat option and click ok. Clicking cancel will not reflect your changes to the schedule.

Entering Expenses
Custody Keeper can help you keep track of expenses like Child Support, Spousal Support, Legal Fees, Childcare, School, Transportation and Other expenses. Simply click on the "Edit / Support" tab while editing a given day then add or modify the expenses for that day. You can add as many as you want. Once an expense is entered on any given day of the schedule, a red $ sign will appear on the calendar's date square indicating one or more expenses on that day.

Entering Daily Comments
Human memory being what it is, it is always better to keep a record. You can enter comments, observations, events, incidents, etc. for any given day of the schedule by clicking on the "Comments" tab while editing a day. Any day containing a comment will be reflected with a green circle in the schedule calendar.

Changing the schedule colors
To change the colors used to represent people throughout the schedule, click the color squares at the bottom of the program window and select the desired color to represent that person.

Saving a schedule
To save changes you have made to a schedule, click the save button on the toolbar. The Save File dialog box will allow you to overwrite the existing schedule or save it as a new schedule. A saved Custody Keeper file is very small and easily transfered to someone else on disk or via email.

Printing schedules
To print a schedule, click the Print button on the toolbar. The window that will appear will allow you to select a printer, the number of copies, and if you wish to print the currently selected month, the entire schedule, or a date range. The reports available to be printed are as follows:
Calendar which is much like what you see on Custody Keeper's main screen.
Expenses which details the expenses by month.
Diary / Comments which prints out all of the comments entered by month.
Report Summary which summarizes the time sharing and expenses for the reporting period.

This screen allows you to either preview, print or save your report as a PDF document which can later be viewed using the Adobe Acrobat Reader®.

Exporting to PDF
Exporting the Custody Keeper reports to PDF format is as easy as printing. Simply click the "Print" button on the toolbar, select the desired reporting options and click the "PDF" button. A save file dialog box will appear prompting you to enter a filename and location where it will save the reports in PDF format.

Holidays and Special Days
To access holidays and special days, click the Holidays button on the toolbar. The window that will appear will allow you to select from Canadian and US legal holidays. You can add your own custom holidays by clicking on the custom tab and then the add button. Once you have selected a holiday you can either View/Edit that day for the current year, display the holiday in the current schedule or remove it from being displayed in the schedule.
